I find this attitude somewhat disappointing. They would book the car in for 1 hour, at a cost of £140, but if it only took half that time, they would charge accordingly. I was told that there was a software update available which enabled the compass display, but because it was a 'Choice' option rather than a warranty issue, I would have to pay for it to be installed. Wondering if the compass display was something that could added via a software update, I enquired at my dealer. I searched through all the setup menus and could not find any option to display a compass on the screen, although I did at one point find an option for 'Software Update.' The latest Golfs, even without Sat Nav, have an option to display a compass on the 'infotainment' screen, which despite being delivered at the end of October, my Mk7 GTI does not have, although it appears to be fitted with the same radio system.
